UPDATE: USING OUR MOMENTUM
We know many of you have struggled with the onslaught of negative news these days. Whether it's more of the effect of funding cuts, the Big Bullshit Bill, or the attacks on our undocumented and transgender siblings, there is a lot demanding our attention and action.
There have also been some uplifting wins! You won't be surprised to read that we are thrilled with Zorhan's win in the NYC mayoral democratic primary! The election in June was the last time we will vote in NYC for the foreseeable future; we closed on our apartment the week after, and will be registering to vote in Sullivan County in the next election cycle.
It was incredibly bittersweet that in our last NYC election we were able to vote for a Socialist candidate with a platform we love. It was also the last time for a while that we got to fill out a ballot with dear friends' names on it, people we have shared our dinner table with, who we organized with, who we love.
Now that such an exhilarating primary is over, we are energized and excited to continue the conversations, planning, and organizing needed to realize the Mamdani agenda, hold him accountable if and when he is in office, and spread a more just vision of the future beyond NYC.
Actualización: APROVECHANDO NUESTRO IMPULSO
Sabemos que muchos de ustedes han luchado contra la avalancha de noticias negativas de estos días. Ya se trate de los efectos de los recortes de fondos, de la Ley de la Gran Mierda (BBB por sus siglas en inglés) o de los ataques a nuestres hermanes indocumentades y trangéneres, hay muchas cosas que exigen nuestra atención y acción.
¡También ha habido algunas victorias edificantes! No te sorprenderá leer que estamos encantades con la victoria de Zorhan Mamdani en las primarias demócratas a la alcaldía de Nueva York. Las elecciones de junio fueron las últimas en las que votaremos en Nueva York en un futuro próximo; cerramos la compra de nuestro apartamento una semana después y nos registraremos para votar en el condado de Sullivan en el próximo ciclo electoral.
Fue increíblemente agridulce que en nuestras últimas elecciones en Nueva York pudiéramos votar a un candidato socialista con una plataforma que nos encanta. También fue la última vez durante un tiempo que pudimos rellenar una papeleta con los nombres de amigues querides, personas con las que hemos compartido la mesa, con las que nos hemos organizado, a las que queremos.
Ahora que han terminado unas primarias tan estimulantes, estamos llenes de energía y entusiasmades por continuar las conversaciones, la planificación y la organización necesarias para hacer realidad el programa de Mamdani, exigirle responsabilidades si llega a ocupar el cargo y difundir una visión más justa del futuro más allá de Nueva York.
