COMMUNITY WORK DAY 06
Sunday, September 22, 2024 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
162 Hiddenbrook Drive, Beacon NY, 12508
Join us for our 6th community work day!
We will be hosting community members for the day to do some pretty standard farm maintenance - harvesting, weeding, seeding, and transplanting.
Please note: This is not an agro-tourism experience—we are a fully functional farm feeding an underserved community. By attending this event, you are contributing to that mission in whatever ways you are physically able. Children are welcome, but please consider that you will need to supervise them for safety alongside whatever work you are contributing.
9:45-10:00 Arrival & Parking & Sign-in
10:00-12:00 Welcome & Tour, Morning Meeting, Work Session 1
12:00-1:00 Lunch and Break
1:00-3:00 PM Meeting, Work Session 2, and Gratitude Closing
To determine your ability to help on this date, volunteers may be doing the following work:
Transplanting seedlings (requires squatting, bending, kneeling, fine motor skills)
Weeding (requires squatting, bending, kneeling, pulling)
Mowing (with a push power) (requires walking and pushing)
Harvest (requires squatting, bending, kneeling, fine motor skills)
What to Expect
We are big about the ‘Community’ in Community Supported Agriculture. We want our farm to be a crossroads of ideas, values, cultures, languages, and love. Roughly once a month we will open our metaphoric doors (and our very real greenhouse tunnel doors) to the community we serve in NYC and the one that has welcomed us in the Hudson Valley.
When you join us for a community work day, you are both guest and team member. We are so grateful to have you join us and will be in full ‘abuelita’ mode (“You must be hungry! Here, eat something, let me feed you!”) and ‘teacher’ mode, as we work with you to empower you to contribute to the growing of your food.
Your time with us will be interspersed with moments to appreciate the land and nature around us, moments to connect with other living beings, and moments to get your hands dirty and create something. We look forward to sharing all those moments with you.
Important Information
The bathroom available for visitors is an outhouse compost toilet.
We aren’t able to provide transportation from the Beacon Metro North station at this time, but it’s a 10 minute cab ride from there.
A vegan friendly main course will be provided, and we welcome potluck sides and snacks.
We have a first aid kit on site.
Pets are not permitted—please notify us in advance if you plan to bring a service animal.
Our field is on a slight incline, and the terrain is bumpy—the majority of our space is unfortunately not ADA accessible.
